What would be the best new idea for new Star Trek Series?

I like enterprise but not enough for it to keep going. I think they are running out of stories and the crew/captain are not on par with other ones. So eventualy it will have to end whether it is this season or one more season.

What I would like to see however is something really cool such as Starfleet command from earth set after The next Generation. They would no longer be limited to just one ship/one captain dealing with issues but they could deal with many species, many problems, planets.. all at once or at different times. They would make great episodes. And alot of the star trek veterns can return as commanders, admirals etc.

What do you think?

I'd like to see something along the lines of another DS9. DS10 perhaps? Another station is new location with differant aliens etc. Throw in a Starship, based at this station so that you can have more variety in the plot lines / episodes.

More ideas? Make it a Federation Starship based at an alien station or vice-versa. A Federation station based at what was thought to be a stable wormhole that collapses after season one trapping all the visiting alien races that now have no way to get home (Voyager) and have to decide to travel the long way, or integrate into this new world. Why not?

i would like to see more of the insides of the starfleet command. However if anyone has played Elite Forces 2, there is a mission in starfleet command.

They need to change species' date=' let's have a show that changes to different species exploration for each episode. They can have Romulan battles, Klingon battles, Breen battles. I just want to see some damn battles![/quote']

There's supposed to be some skermishes between the Romulans & Klingons at around this time, if I recall.

......So maybe we can see some of those?

:D

Although I think Enterprise is doing a fine job with such limited room for growth as they are confined to riding established Trek lore, a new ship set after 2378 is needed to revive the Star Trek franchise. TNG was successful because it took the best elements of TOS (flexibility) and departed from what had been done before, unlike DS9 and Voyager, which borrowed so much from TNG and TOS. This is a great thread as it allows us to offer suggestions on how to revive a declining franchise. Modern media has been unkind to Nemesis and Enterprise because they aren't new enough. If Paramount decides to do another Star Trek they have to do what they did with TNG. Think outside the box, take the best elements from Trek (like TNG did) and do what no Trek series has done before. In my opinion the best thing they can do is set a new series AFTER the Picard era with a new ship, new crew and new concept for a Starfleet ship. They did this with TNG and that helped it through its 1st season. It is imperative to avoid the limited room of a space station or a ship trying to get home as the basis for a series.

The arrival of the Defiant in season three was an admission that the space station idea wasn't working. The episodes with the Defiant and away from the station were probably better than the ones on it. The idea of stories coming to the station all the time was very limiting and produced episodes with more talk than anything else. TNG had adventure, not talk.

Voyager's end was PREDICTABLE. Janeway's ship would either get home or it would not. It was pretty obvious that the ship would get back as I don't think they would have ended Voyager any other way. Enterprise is not hindered by any of these obvious constraints that plagued DS9 and Voyager but is limited by the fact that it is a prequel. TNG was the only Trek spinoff that truely went where no one has gone before. Trek will need to evolve if it is to make a comeback like with TNG.

  • 2 weeks later...

perhaps you'll think this is boring....

but Section 31 would make a great series. perhaps a spy in the tal shiaror in the klingon high council who also had a officers commission and got to blow stuff up.

the scope is pretty big just depending on how it is done.

or...

starfleet academy, the series. we could follow the progress of new recruits through the emotional, physical and moral training involved in being in starfleet. but not just that also socialising and further undertanding 24th century earth culture.

(not like grange hill in space)

laters all
